Following the completion of the Gears Tactics development, I joined the Outcasters team. During my time there I helped on improving the overall player experience and performance. I remained on the project until its release.

Working on a multiplayer title targeting a cloud-based platform, such as Stadia, proved that it had its own challenges and learnings. Having made my first steps on some internal projects already with Unreal Engine networking, I was very keen to expand my knowledge and tackle the challenges before me. Although the project was nearing in its final stages of development, there was plenty of work needed to be done both in terms of player experience and performance optimizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Controller & Input handling: Worked closely with the design team to improve the game’s feel using different control input devices. Added different control modes and aim assist functionality.

  • Performance and Network optimizations: Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize the networking code.  (prediction)

  • Matchmaking: Improved matchmaking implementation and synchronization between lobby players.

  • Camera: Improved behavior based on player’s current input method.

  • Options: Gameplay side implementation of the main menu options and their in-game application.

  • Coding standards: Help the team achieve and maintain a high quality codebase, Participate in reviews, Refactor existing systems
